Up, Up and Away!

Over Father's Day weekend I was inspired to make a few masculine-type cards...
The card above features the hot air balloon from the Stampin' Up! set "You're Amazing."
Check out all the cool images from this set:

On my card, I also used SU! Comfort Cafe DSP and the only "ribbon" I can classify as manly- some denim!  Oh, well I guess I also added a little twine on my Happy Birthday tags... A tiny bow can't hurt, can it?  :) A Cuttlebug herringbone embossing folder reminded me a lot of the pattern on the DSP, so I enjoyed adding that texture to the top of Soft Suede panel.

Happy Stamping, everyone!

Happy Father's Day!

Hope everyone is appreciating their dad today.  I made this very simple, masculine card above for my father-in-law.  He's been a fan of the "Master & Commander" book series and movie, and loves sailing, so I hope he liked it. The card features the large sailing vessel from Stampin' Up!'s set "Open Sea."   This nautical theme stamp set debuted in a "mini-catalog" a year or two ago and has been added back to the new catalog.  The DSP I picked up from the SU Clearance Rack not too long ago.

I was really proud of the knots I tied on the rope to embellish the card.  I secured the knots to stay in position with just a dab of Tombow Mono-Adhesive liquid glue (it dries clear!).  Here is a close up:

Here's a glimpse of the images available in the Open Sea stamp set:

Sadly, had to give away other cards I had pre-made in advance for my dad, since he passed away last year.  While I had no use for cards I intended to give to him, at least some other people could share them with their loved ones.
Give your dad a hug for me!
Have a beautiful weekend!

Hoppy for you!

Ah... a chance to play with some retired products was very stress-relieving last weekend.
The set I used for the card above is retired, "Hoppy for You," but I used it with some fresh colors, Gumball Green and Pool Party, as well as some current Stampin' Up! embossing folders & baker's twine.

Tree frogs are kinda quiet around our place this year, as it's been so dry, but I hope having made this card maybe I'll create a little luck for them.  I'll play some more this weekend with some NEW Stampin' Up! supplies.  Yippee!  Cannot wait to share.  OH, and I'm LOVING the new firm foam stamp pads so much, I'm doing what I thought I'd never do- re-purchasing favorite colors for the new ink pad! If you haven't tried those you just must!  Enjoy & have a great weekend!
